Peruvian athlete Christhian Pacheco won the Lima 2019 Pan American Games men's marathon gold in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 41 seconds at Kennedy Park in Miraflores district on Saturday morning.

"We are local here, and no one can beat us. This is our home," the Peruvian said on claiming Peru's second marathon gold medal of the day, after teammate Gladys Tejeda triumphed in the women's event earlier today.

"I knew the race was mine from the start. It was in my head at the beginning that I was going to win," Pacheco expressed.

"I had respect for my rivals, but I visualized victory on these streets from the moment I arrived in Lima two weeks ago," he added.

Pacheco dedicated this victory to his daughter and thanked his trainer, relatives, and training partners.

He was congratulated by President Martin Vizcarra on the occasion.
