Peruvian Air Force (FAP) plane departed for Salinas city (Ecuador) on Thursday to bring back 264 citizens —including students, teachers, and parents— who got stranded in said country due to roadblocks and protests against President Lenin Moreno.
According to Deputy Minister of Institutional Management Guido Rospigliosi, the aircraft will make several trips between both countries, taking 80 people per flight until all stranded persons are brought to Peru.
A group of students, teachers, and parents living in northern Peru will be taken to FAP airport in Piura region, while those from Saco Oliveros and Pamer schools will be flown to Lima.
As is known,
protests and riots in Ecuador erupted a week ago when Moreno cut fuel subsidies as part of a package of measures in line with a US$4.2 billion loan deal with the International Monetary Fund.
The Ecuadorian Head of State has relocated his government base to Guayaquil due to anti-government protests in Quito.
