A Swiss citizen voluntarily returned two pieces of Peru's cultural heritage to the South American country's Embassy in Switzerland.

The cultural artifacts were officially handed over to Peruvian Ambassador Luis Castro Joo through an official act.

The Peruvian mission chief thanked Catarina Strickler for her voluntary decision to return the cultural items.

The diplomat emphasized the special appreciation that Peru has for decisions by Swiss citizens to restitute artifacts that have been in their families' possession for years, highlighting that their return contributes to the study of pre-Hispanic cultures.

He also noted that similar decisions have facilitated the restitution of 78 cultural artifacts, belonging to Peru's cultural heritage, from Switzerland in one year alone.

The two objects, identified as belonging to the pre-Hispanic Chimu style, will be sent to Lima soon, once the corresponding protocols are completed.

The corresponding official event took place on December 27, 2024.
