Peru's President: Disbursement of COVID-19 grant funds to start by end of August

14:08 | Lima, Aug. 12.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced that the disbursement of funds to pay the second coronavirus grant of S/760 (around US$223) will begin by the end of August this year.

"The disbursement of the second grant —in favor of 8.5 million households throughout the country— will begin immediately after the payment of the first one has been completed," Mr. Vizcarra explained as he addressed the nation.

The investment for this second phase entails more than S/6 billion (around US$1.68 billion).

"It is a justifiable effort, given the difficult circumstances that families have faced during the time of the pandemic," he stressed.

The Head of State affirmed that he is holding meetings with the Economy-Finance Ministry, the Development-Social Inclusion Ministry and the Labor-Employment Promotion Ministry in a bid to ensure a meticulous disbursement.

"We are making the arrangements to secure a rapid and efficient disbursement of the grant funds, using the experience gained during the delivery of the first Universal (Family) Bonus," he emphasized.

Remarks were made in a televised address to the nation from the Government Palace in Lima. President Vizcarra was joined by State ministers on the occasion.
