Peruvian Grand Master Jorge Cori won the first gold medal for Peru at the
43rd Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia.
It should be noted, Cori held the first place among chess players under 18 in the Americas and the eighth spot in the world.
Furthermore, he obtained the Grand Master title in 2009, when he was 14 years old.
The 23-year-old player took bronze at the 42nd Chess Olympiad held in Baku, back in 2016.

Chess Olympiad took place in Paris at the same time as the 1924 Summer Olympics. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) was formed on Sunday, July 20 of that year. FIDE organized the first Official Olympiad in 1927 which took place in London.
