Working population in Peru increased by 1.8% (or 302,500 people) between July and September this year, compared to the same period in 2018, the
National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Friday.
According to the technical report "
Performance of Labor Market Indicators" —prepared by analyzing data provided by the National Household Survey (ENAHO)— the employed population nationwide was 17,114,100 people, 55.9% (or 9,572,000 people) of which were men and 44.1% (7,542,100 people) were women.
Sorted by area of residence, the urban employed population increased by 2.2% (or 289,500 people), while that in the rural areas grew by 0.3% (or 13,000 people).
On the other hand, the working population aged 45 and above rose 2.6% (or 154,000 people) during the above-mentioned quarter, followed by people aged 25-44 (up by 1.5% or 123,200 people) and those aged 14-24 (up by 0.9% or 25,300 people).
Employment rates by regions
The employed population living on the coast grew by 1.4% (or 131,900 people) compared to Jul-Sep 2018.
In the mountains, the employment rate rose by 1.6% (or 88,200 people), due to an increase in central and northern highlands.
Similarly, in the jungle, the employed population recorded an increase of 4.0% (or 82,400 people) compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
