00:02 | Davos (Switzerland), Jan. 24.

Vice-President Mercedes Araoz has affirmed Peru supports a democratic and peaceful transition in Venezuela after National Assembly Chairman Juan Guaido assumed the post of Interim President.

In this sense, the high-ranking official indicated the Inca country's Government supports Guaido, who on Wednesday swore-in as provisional president during a protest against Nicolas Maduro's new term, which is considered illegitimate

The Vice-President gave these statements alongside Presidents Ivan Duque (Colombia) and Jair Bolsonaro (Brazil), as well as Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, within the framework of the World Economic Forum.

In Lima, the Peruvian Government recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as Interim President of the Bolivarian nation.

Likewise, other countries have shown support for the interim president, such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Paraguay.
