Peru: Public official tells how Master's degree improved his skills at Qali Warma

00:00 | Lima, Oct. 15.

Postgraduate studies abroad —financed by Servir's Excellence Challenge program— have substantially improved the professional skills of Peruvian public officials, thereby positively affecting their fields of work.

That is the case of Grobert Guadalupe, who worked at the national school feeding program "Qali Warma."

The engineer, who studied at Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) between 2016 and 2017, said the postgraduate program "opened his eyes" and allowed him to better understand the challenges the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) had to face in order to improve the safety of the food delivered to students.

After his return and, in a short period of time, he managed to eliminate the complaints on food quality observed at some schools in Amazonas region —the area where he worked in.

In this sense, Guadalupe confirmed that no Qali Warma-related alerts have been issued in Amazonas since then.

Likewise, he noted that the Excellence Challenge Program allowed him to go overseas and see things from a different perspective.

"It has been two years since I returned to my country and I have paid off my debt. Now I am working as a teacher at Amazonas region's Toribio Rodriguez de Mendoza National University (…)," the engineer expressed.

The Excellence Challenge Program —created by Servir in 2012— grants loans of up to US$150,000 to professionals who work in State-run institutions under any contracting modality and meet the requirements established by the law.

His remarks were made during the "1st National Meeting of Excellence Challenge Program Recipients: Agents of Change for Public Administration, towards the Bicentennial," held in Miraflores district.
