The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo held an emotional meeting with inmates of the Polyphonic Choir of Chorrillos Women's Penitentiary Establishment in Lima on Friday.

Mr. Castillo participated in the Productive Prisons for the World exhibition held at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry headquarters.

"Sometimes you feel powerless at certain moments, but after all, there is a God who judges us. I know that you, from where you are, will get ahead. You really move me; I see a lot of strength in you. Be strong, dear sisters, to move forward," Mr. Castillo expressed with a broken voice at the event.

The inmates performed a medley of traditional Peruvian songs that the Head of State listened to carefully.

While performing the song Contigo Perú (With you Peru), one of the inmates was visibly moved. Thus, President Castillo approached her group, comforted them, and had a brief dialogue with them.

The Productive Prisons for the World event included an artistic exhibition and a fair featuring products made at prison workshops by inmates from various penitentiary establishments, in addition to ventures by ex-inmates.

On this occasion, the top official was joined by Ministers Felix Chero (Justice-Human Rights), Alejandro Salas (Labor-Employment Promotion), Roberto Sanchez (Foreign Trade-Tourism), and Eduardo Mora (Production).

The exhibition was also attended by representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Peru.
