Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday afternoon reported the departure of Health Minister Elizabeth Hinostroza from the cabinet.
In a press conference, the Head of State affirmed that coronavirus (COVID-19) demands permanent evaluation of the levels of response in each of the issues and complexities it poses, as well as decision making.
"Today, while evaluating the situation with the Prime Minister, we thought the Council of Ministers team needed a big change," he stated.
The top official noted the efforts made so far by Elizabeth Hinostroza and thanked her for her work and commitment —both now and before the emergency.
"A rigorous assessment forces us to make the decision that she should be replaced by a public health specialist," the statesman pointed out.
"We found it appropriate to replace our health minister by a professional with more experience in dealing with the health issues that the country faces now," he added.
On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
Friday marks the fifth day of mandatory social isolation decreed by the Government.
