Peru: Police seizes over US$12 million worth of cocaine

Peru's National Police confiscated a total of 402 kg of cocaine during simultaneous operations carried out in the cities of Lima and Huancayo, the institution informed.

The drug busts also led to the dismantling of a drug-trafficking gang and the arrest of 5 people.

The haul was found in the form of bricks inside two SUV vehicles, National Anti-Drug Agency (Dirandro) spokespersons said. 

Valued at more than US$12 million, the narcotics were to be shipped to the United States and Europe. 

Two of the detentions took place in Huancayo. Kelen Lubel Chaupis Santiago (53) and William Chavez Rivera (47) were arrested in possession of more than 192 kg of cocaine. 
 

On the other hand, Manuel Cruz Espinoza (55), Edgard Carlos Claudio Espinoza (35) and Edson Jose Luna Espinoza (30) were arrested outside La Joya hotel in Lima with 210 kg of cocaine. 

Cell phones and cash were also seized. 

The drug dealers will be transferred to Dirandro headquarters for further investigations with the purpose of capturing the rest of the gang.
