Grupo Gloria founder Vito Rodriguez Rodriguez told the Public Ministry he had made contributions worth US$200,000 each to the campaigns of former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018) and ex-presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori, according to IDL-Reporteros.
The cash donation, he added, had been made at the ex-president's house in Lima. The amount was contained in a briefcase that had been delivered directly to the then-candidate, the investigative journalism site reported.
According to IDL-Reporteros, the entrepreneur also revealed that the Yura company —which is part of Grupo Gloria— had made a contribution of nearly US$200,000 through the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) for the defense of private enterprises back in 2011.
Keiko Fujimori
In his testimony last Tuesday, Rodriguez may have said he had also delivered US$200,000 in cash to Keiko Fujimori for her 2011 presidential campaign, IDL-Reporteros affirmed.
Via Twitter, the group noted that the businessman acknowledged —before the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group— he had provided that type of support to the former candidate.
The Grupo Gloria founder may have said the money had been delivered to a house in Lima's La Molina district at the time Fujimori was present, it added.
Grupo Gloria is an industrial conglomerate of Peruvian investments with a business presence in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Puerto Rico. Its activities range from dairy and food through to cement, paper, agro-industry, transport and services.
Preventive detention
The Judicial Branch had declared well-founded the request made by the Prosecutor's Office to imprison Fujimori because of the danger of obstruction of justice that implied keeping her free.
