Peru FA Min: Social protest situations must be resolved through dialogue

14:45 | Lima, Dec. 6.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra has expressed his hope that the difficult social situations experienced by countries in this part of the continent will be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

"While it is true that there is some volatility in the neighborhood, as well as social protest situations, we hope that these will be resolved peacefully and through dialogue," he told reporters.

"In addition, the Foreign Affairs Ministry is carrying out a permanent monitoring through its consulates on the situation of our fellow citizens," he stated.

Minister Meza-Cuadra also referred to his recent participation in the meeting of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) held in Colombia.

At the event, the dignitaries approved measures to restrict entry and transit —to regional countries— of people linked to the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro.

Furthermore, the diplomat welcomed the call for presidential elections in Bolivia "where the situation has fortunately normalized."
