Peru: Defense Minister tenders resignation

Peruvian Defense Minister Daniel Barragan on Saturday submitted his irrevocable resignation from office and expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic Pedro Castillo.

In a letter addressed to the Head of State, the former Air Force officer explained that his resignation is due to "strictly personal" reasons.

"I inform public opinion that, due to strictly personal reasons, I have submitted my irrevocable resignation from the position of Defense Minister," Barragan wrote on Twitter.

"I thank the President of the Republic for having given me the invaluable opportunity to serve my homeland," he added.

In the letter, 61-year-old Barragan expressed his deep gratitude to the head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, as well as to the general commanders of the Peruvian Air Force, Navy, and Army.

Similarly, he thanked the Defense sector's military and civil personnel for their support and team work to fulfill the Ministry's strategic objectives.
