Peru attends 63rd IAEA General Conference

Peru participates in the 63rd Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in the Austrian capital city of Vienna on September 16-20.

The Inca country's delegation is led by Health Minister Zulema Tomas

During the Plenary of the General Conference, the high-ranking official underlined the important cooperation relations between Peru and the IAEA aimed at peacefully using nuclear technology in the health, agricultural, environmental, and hydrological areas, among others.

Likewise, she highlighted the organization's support for projects, the improvement in cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as the increase of production capabilities of radioisotopes for medical use. 

The Inca country's delegation held meetings with IAEA's high-ranking officials, in which they addressed the important work done by Peru with nuclear energy that has had a positive impact on the population's quality of life. 

Furthermore, both parties agreed to strengthen the cooperation provided by the organization to the South American nation, especially on cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. 

Moreover, Minister Tomas reaffirmed Peru's stance on nuclear non-proliferation, disarmament, and the implementation of safeguards in order to preserve international peace and security.
