"There is a significant influx of money, especially in the gastronomy and hotel sectors, etc. We estimate that visitors will bring between US$46 to US$50 million to Peru," he told the Andina News Agency.
In this regard, the diplomat said
APEC 2024 is the most important showcase of these times for Peru and the potential for incoming investments.
"In APEC Peru 2008 and 2016, there was over US$9 billion in investment thanks to this forum; the truth is that it’s not just about meeting here, but important income is also being generated," he stated.
Invitation to leaders
Among the leaders who have confirmed their participation are those of Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
"The number is truly important, some leaders usually do not confirm (their attendance) until the last minute, as is the case with the President of the United States, for example; we hope he will come; he is a great friend of the Asia-Pacific and a great friend of Peru," he emphasized.
On the other hand, Minister Schialer said the announcement of protests for APEC Leaders' Week will project a false image of what Peru is.
"Peru is a hard-working nation, a nation that wants to progress, a nation that faces a series of challenges, such as citizen security. At every Council of Ministers session, the first thing the madam president asks is how we are doing in the fight against insecurity. This is the highest priority for the Cabinet and the Government," he concluded.
