The
President of the Republic Pedro Castillo will participate in the virtual
Summit for Democracy on December 9 and 10, at the invitation of
U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.
More than 110 presidents and leaders from government will participate in the dialogues to take place during the Summit, with the aim of discussing the situation of democracy in the world and identifying actions that contribute to its institutional strengthening and stability.
To this end, the debate will focus on three main topics: strengthening of democracy, respect for human rights, and the fight against corruption, which are regarded as priorities within the national development agenda and for the Peruvian foreign policy.
In this regard, the Summit will provide an opportunity to reaffirm Peru's commitment to multilateralism, political dialogue, and search for consensus, with a view to facing the challenges afflicting the world, which have been exacerbated by the pandemic and demand an international solidarity response, taking into account the most vulnerable populations.
In addition, the host Government has organized a series of pre-Summit panels for December 8, which include the participation of civil society organizations and the private sector.
All the public events of the Summit, as well as the previous panels, will be broadcast live on YouTube. At the same time, messages from participating presidents and leaders from government will be broadcast on another channel on the same platform.
