Peru's President: CAN's reorganization will be focused on population

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo referred to the reorganization of the Andean Community (CAN) —whose Pro-Tempore Presidency is being assumed by Peru— noting that the population will be the bloc's axis of integration and the ultimate goal of its progress.

Moreover, he noted that the bloc's reorganization will place emphasis on the border area, environmental protection and migration, among other important issues.

According to the Head of State, the aim is to formulate public policies aimed, for example, at reducing inequalities in the Andean sub-region and redirecting priority areas.

He went on to say that it is a social reorganization, which is quite necessary in these times.

Mr. Castillo announced that a high-level group will be convened to make a diagnosis of the results from the first reorganization of the CAN, carried out in 2013.

He also mentioned that the Pro-Tempore Presidency of Peru will strive to improve the physical connection between the Andean countries.

Additionally, the bloc seeks expand the flow of goods and services around a vision of the future in economic and social aspects, in order to get a real sense of integration.

Remarks were made on Monday during the XXII Meeting of the Andean Presidential Council held in Lima.
