The Culture Ministry announced entrance fees to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The promotional fares will come into effect next year and apply to domestic visitors, foreigners residing in Peru, and visitors from Andean Community member countries.

According to a ministerial resolution published in El Peruano official gazette, the adult fare is S/64 (about US$19.7).

The admission fee for students on university and non-university-level higher education programs, school students and children aged 12 and younger is S/32 (about US$9.5).

However, the document provides that minors shall be accompanied by an adult, who will be in charge of them and shall be responsible for their actions. The necessary safety measures shall be implemented to do so.

These rates will be in effect from January 1 to December 31, 2018.

This way, the Ministry of Culture keeps Machu Picchu entry fees unchanged since 2015.

As stated in the resolution, the measure is intended to boost domestic and social tourism in the area.

Plus, it seeks to promote tourist attractions and services the sacred Inca citadel has to offer.
