Mayors of Huanuco, Pasco, Piura, Ayacucho, Junin, and Cajamarca regions —specifically from coffee and cacao growing areas— will present their experiences with alternative crops to U.S. legislators this week.
This presentation is organized by Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry and Embassy in the United States.
Peruvian mayors will address the impact of bilateral cooperation programs on the development of
alternative crops —mainly benefiting Peruvian communities in former
coca-growing areas— under an approach of prevention, as well as comprehensive and sustainable development.
According to State-run
Sierra y Selva Exportadora (Exporting Andes and Jungle) program, a tasting of different coffee and cacao products will also take place within this framework.
Likewise, participants will showcase Peruvian
coffee and
cacao as alternative crops, as well as present their contribution to the industry in the fight against
drug trafficking and coca-crop reduction.
