The Executive Branch will continue reforms in order to ensure an honest and effective Government, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Peruvian General Volunteer Firefighters Department's (CGBVP) General Commander.

The Head of State called for greater respect for firefighters, as they are the first in the community to respond to a call for help.

Legislative Degree No. 1260 —which contains provisions in favor of firemen working in public and private sectors and, at the same time, strengthens emergency care— is aimed at strengthening the institution.

"We respect firemen, and we have tried to reflect this on Legislative Decree No. 1260, which is one of the many reforms we introduced during the first months of this administration with congressional authorization. We are going to continue on our reform path to ensure an honest and effective Government," he expressed.

He emphasized firefighters, mainly in provinces, are the first ones on the scene when it comes to helping irresponsible drivers, whose buses fall into abyss, leaving dead and injured.

This is the first time the Peruvian General Volunteer Firefighters Department's (CGBVP) elects its general commander and deputy commander in democratic and transparent elections.

The winner was Major Brigadier Andres Roberto Angeles Bachet, who works at Breña Fire Department. The new deputy commander is Major Brigadier Larry Steve Lynch Solis.
