Cusco, Arequipa and Tarapoto cities emerge as major tourist destinations for the upcoming school break in Peru.

This is because of the wide range of tourist attractions and recent improvements in their infrastructure and services.

Cusco

Cusco city —ancient capital of the Inca Empire and Peru's main tourist attraction— stands out as the first destination for both domestic and foreign vacationers.

Stone buildings like palaces, temples and Catholic churches —built during the Colonial era— embellish the Historical Center.

Likewise, the city offers many options such as tours to Sacsayhuaman archeological park, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu.

Arequipa

Arequipa is the second-most important city of the Inca country.

Known as the White City, due to its ashlar (volcanic stone) constructions, Arequipa is home to the Basilica Cathedral, the Santa Catalina Monastery, and the Municipal Palace, among other notable buildings.

Another famous destination is Colca Valley. Located in Caylloma province, this area is a great place to enjoy the flight of condors —an emblematic Andean bird— and observe amazing landscapes as well.

Tarapoto

Another popular city for such vacation period will be Tarapoto, capital of San Martin region.

This city attracts visitors for its impressive culture and natural beauty.

Along with other regional cities, Tarapoto offers multiple options such as natural thermal baths, hikes to waterfalls and valleys, among other things.

Local gastronomy is also one of Tarapoto's main attractions.

"Although it's still too early to estimate the total demand, the trend is becoming evident, since these activities are planned several weeks in advance," Despegar.com Country Manager Diego Castro affirmed.
