07:15 | Vatican City, Sep. 22.

His Holiness Pope Francis received the Peruvian soccer jersey in a private meeting with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at the Vatican Apostolic Palace on Friday.

Presented by Mr. Kuczynski's aide-de-camp, the gift drew a smile from the recipient, the Supreme Pontiff.

It must be noted Pope Francis' name appeared on the shirt.

Likewise, the Head of State gave him a portrait of Lady Undoer of Knots and a "varayoc" —an Inca symbol of power.

Peru's top official arrived at the Holy See alongside his wife, Nancy Lange.

During the meeting, Mr. Kuczynski formalized the invitation for the Supreme Pontiff to visit the Inca nation next year.

He landed at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, Italy on Wednesday, joined by Ministers Ricardo Luna (Foreign Affairs) and Alfonso Grados (Labor and Employment Promotion).

Peru's Commander-in-Chief was received by the Holy See's Head of Protocol Msgr. Jose Bettencourt, who gave him a warm welcome on behalf of the Catholic Church.

Private audiences with Vatican representatives were held on Thursday to define the subjects discussed at the meeting.
