The Governments of Peru and Chile are committed to giving new momentum to bilateral relations, Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna said after signing a joint declaration following 'two-plus-two' talks in Lima.
Luna was joined by Chilean counterpart Heraldo Muñoz, as well as Peru's Defense Minister Jorge Nieto and counterpart Jose Antonio Gomez.
"It [the 'two-plus-two' meeting] confirms our willingness to foster mutual trust and cooperation through the revival of bilateral mechanisms," he added.
He underscored both sides' cooperation commitments made under the 'two-plus-two' formula regarding disaster management, peacekeeping operations, confidence-building measures, humanitarian demining, women's military participation, among other issues.
"I want to highlight our pledge to revive joint practices designed to face earthquakes in the border region; this will help manage and prevent climate change-related disasters," he continued.
Today's agreements will be will be forwarded to the
Peru-Chile Binational Cabinet —set to take place in Urubamba city (Cusco region) on 7 July 2017— for approval.
'Two-plus-two' talks show the willingness of Presidents Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Michelle Bachelet to work hand-in-hand to support both countries' development.
