Peru will have a very good fishing season this time with a fishing quota estimated at 2.8 million tons, Production Minister Bruno Giuffra affirmed on Thursday.

"Moreover, we will make sure resource is enough for the following seasons," he added.

Giuffra urged to respect —as has been the case until now— the spatial closure of areas occupied by juveniles.

"I make a call to respect the closure of areas where juveniles congregate in order to avoid future problems," he noted.

Suspension of fishing activities

A recently-published rule provides that fishing activities will be suspended for at least three consecutive days if juvenile (Engraulis ringens) and white (Anchoa nasus) anchovy catches exceed the 10% quota per day at a port.

According to the Ministerial Resolution, only registered and authorized vessels will be able to catch fish during this season.
