As part of disaster relief measures, Peruvian Army continues transporting humanitarian aid —via land and air— to difficult-access areas located in northern Lambayeque region.

It must be noted said initiative is mainly focused on the region's Andean towns.

Peru was recently at the mercy of "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon characterized by heavy rains, landslides and floods that have destroyed infrastructure and crops, as well as left many citizens homeless.

Jose Rospigliosi, Lambayeque's Seventh Infantry Brigade Head, underlined actions are taken in coordination with municipalities requiring air transportation of aid supplies.

"Over 1,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been transported to Lambayeque's various towns by land, whereas more than 100 tons by air," Rospigliosi told Andina news agency.

He went on to add 80 Army members had been deployed in northern Piura region for relief efforts.

Lastly, he highlighted Army personnel have supported dengue fever prevention campaigns in Lambayeque's Tuman district.
