Rock legend and frontman of Irish band U2 Bono said on Friday that he is excited to visit Peru and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu for the first time.

"Gracias, muchas gracias amigos (Thank you very much frinds). I am here with my "familia" (family) to discover this beautiful country for the first time. I am very excited, but I am here with the family so I hope you understand I can’t say hello to everybody. For the next time. Thank you," said Bono.

According to reports in Lima, Paul David Hewson (also known as Bono) will visit Machu Picchu and climb the Huayna Picchu on Sunday.

Bono has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and was named as a Person of the Year by Time, among other awards and nominations.
