American movie producer Cheryl Miller Houser announced a documentary based on the Inca country's women —who learn programming, as well as computer science, and manage to overcome poverty thanks to Peruvian startup Laboratoria— will be shot in 2018.
During
the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival, Houser told Andina news agency the idea was born during a recent trip to Chile with the purpose of screening a film called "Generation Startup."
While in the neighboring country, she discovered the story of
Laboratoria —a
startup led by Peruvian Mariana Costa— which provides technical training to young women from underprivileged backgrounds.
Such company owns branches in Peru and Chile. Likewise, it has been praised by former
U.S President Barack Obama and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
"Shooting may start in November, and it will last between eight or nine months," she said in this sense.
Houser has already made contact with the female team that leads Laboratoria and will direct filming sessions —at least— once a month.
Post-production will start in April 2019, and the documentary will be released in early 2020.
