Peru wine exports up 50% in 1H 2017

Peruvian wine exports amounted to US$633,891 in the first half of 2017, experiencing a 50% growth from the same period last year, Association of Peruvian Exports (Adex) reported.

In this sense, the United States became the top export destination for the alcoholic beverage.

The drink was exported in three sections: "wines in containers holding less than or equal to 2 L" (US$419,000), "wines in containers holding more than 2 L" (US$165,788) and "sparkling wines." 

In this sense, the US (US$396,666) and the UK (US$74,924) received 74% of the total shipments of said product.

Canada, Chile, Japan, Germany, Costa Rica, France and Switzerland are some of the 15 markets the Peruvian product has reached.

Within this framework, destinations experiencing the highest increases were Cuba (613%) and the UK (522%).

According to the ADEX Data Trade Business Intelligence System, firms leading the ranking of Peruvian wine export are Santiago Queirolo S.A.C., Bodegas y Viñedos Tabernero S.A.C., L.C. Group S.A.C., Bodegas Vista Alegre S.A.C., Destilería Nacional S.R.L., Viña Tacama S.A. and Viña Ocucaje S.A., among others.

It must be noted wine exports last year totaled US$908,435 which represented an 11% growth over the shipments in 2015.
