00:04 | Lima, Jun. 24.

Former Minister Alfredo Thorne on Friday wished successor Fernando Zavala the best in his new role leading Peru’s Economy and Finance portfolio, assuring he would continue pushing reforms implemented by the government.

"Today, I bid farewell to MEF [Economy and Finance Ministry]. I wish Fernando Zavala the best, and I am confident he will carry on with reforms undertaken," the former cabinet member tweeted.

Zavala —the also Prime Minister— was sworn in as Peru's new Economy and Finance Minister last Friday during a ceremony led by President Pedro Pablo at Lima-based Government Palace.

As is known, he has been presiding over the Council of Ministers since July 2016.

The Cabinet Chief will thus concurrently serve as Finance Head, filling the gap left by Alfredo Thorne after losing a confidence vote at Congress last Wednesday.

This will be the economist's second term at the head of the Economy and Finance Ministry, following the 2005-2006 period.
