Peru: Russia, Ireland and Hong Kong buyers interested in Lambayeque-grown fruits

13:04 | Chiclayo (Lambayeque region), Apr. 24.

For the first time, buyers from Russia, Ireland, and Hong Kong will arrive in northern Lambayeque region to explore the benefits of Peruvian fresh fruits at a Business Round as part of Expo Peru Norte 2018.

According to Alberto Sanchez, coordinator at PromPeru's Northwest Macro-Regional Office of Exports, purchasers are interested in fresh fruits and products of the same presentation such as mangoes, passion fruit, organic bananas, figs, lucuma, garlic, asparagus, peppers, citrus fruits, and berries.

"They have placed orders for pomegranates, fresh fruits, and vegetables," he stated.

Sanchez noted that previous business rounds in Lambayeque had never involved buyers from Russia, Ireland or Hong Kong.

"This is very important because we do not have much experience in fresh fruit exports to these countries as they are too far away, but they are quite interested in this type of purchase," he said.

Other buyers come from the United States, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Spain, South Korea, Canada, France, Argentina, and the Netherlands.

Business Round

The Business Round will convene 26 importers, as well as over 60 exporters from Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Loreto, and San Martin regions.

Also attending will be exporters from Lima, Junin, and Ica regions, which confirms the great expectations and national economic dynamism generated by the event.

According to the exports official, this fair is expected to generate between US$30 and US$40 million in sale commitments.

The round will be held within the framework of Expo Peru Norte 2018 —set to take place April 26-29 in Chiclayo city— with the support of Peru's Trade Offices abroad (OCEXs).
