Peru's Head of State Martin Vizcarra congratulated Mario Abdo Benitez Monday on his election as President of the Republic of Paraguay.
He also praised Paraguayan people for their democratic participation in Sunday's election.
"We are pleased to see the way the institutional structure is strengthened across our region,"
President Vizcarra posted on Twitter.
Abdo Benitez —candidate for the conservative Colorado Party— won the presidential election by 3.7 points over Efrain Alegre of the center-left GANAR coalition.
"People voted for unity and not for division. I am committed to being a unifying factor in Paraguay," the President-elect said in a conciliatory tone after the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) declared his victory.
