Peru: New ministerial cabinet sworn in

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday afternoon administered the oath of office to members of his reshuffled cabinet, which will remain led by Second Vice-President and Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz.

The new ministers sworn in today are: Jorge Kisic (Defense), Jorge Melendez (Development-Social Inclusion), Jose Arista (Agriculture-Irrigation), Alejandro Neyra (Culture), Javier Barreda (Labor-Employment Promotion), Lieneke Schol (Production), Abel Salinas (Health), and Angela Grossheim (Energy-Mines).

The following high-ranking officials will hold their positions: Claudia Cooper (Economy-Finance), Vicente Romero (Interior), Enrique Mendoza (Justice-Human Rights), Idel Vexler (Education), Eduardo Ferreyros (Foreign Trade-Tourism), Bruno Giuffra (Transport-Communications), Ana Maria Choquehuanca (Women-Vulnerable Populations), Elsa Galarza (Environment), and Carlos Bruce (Housing-Construction-Sanitation).

Minister Cayetana Aljovin has departed the Energy and Mines portfolio to serve as new Foreign Affairs head.

It must be noted former Ministers Jorge Nieto (Defense), Ricardo Luna (Foreign Affairs), Salvador del Solar (Culture), Fernando D'Alessio (Health), Pedro Olaechea (Production), Fiorella Molinelli (Development-Social Inclusion), Jose Manuel Hernandez (Agriculture-Irrigation), and Alfonso Grados (Labor-Employment Promotion) resigned their posts.

Weeks ago, Mr. Kuczynski had announced he was working with Prime Minister Araoz to form a Reconciliation Cabinet.

The ceremony took place at the Government Palace in Lima.
