Peru is considered Latin America's fifth-largest good-supplier for France, Peruvian-French Foreign Trade Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIPF) reported.

Within this framework, CCIPF highlighted President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's recent trip to the European country had been essential for strengthening trade ties between both nations.

"President Kuczynski's visit definitely boosted brotherhood ties between Peru and France, and showcased investment opportunities offered by the [Andean] country to French companies," Chairman Ricardo Guevara affirmed.

Likewise, Guevara said the European country can positively contribute to Peruvian sectors like water, sanitation, transport, technology and services.

Last year, the Inca nation held the 70th and 66th spots as France's customer and supplier, respectively.

"We are [immersed] in a growth dynamic [...] that is quite encouraging. However, there is still plenty of room to grow," he concluded.

Exports

French exports to Peru totaled €318 million (around US$357 million) in 2016, up by 27% from 2015.

Also, Peruvian exports to France reached €444 million (about US$498.4 million) last year, thus increasing 3.2%.

President Kuczynski's trip

As is known, Peru's top official met with counterpart Emmanuel Macron on June 8, within the framework of the Andean Head of State's official visit to France.

The gathering took place at Elysee Palace in Paris.

At the site, both leaders reaffirmed their commitments to the Paris Agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to tackle global warming.

Likewise, the dignitaries addressed democracy and development in Latin America.

While in the City of Lights, the Peruvian Commander-in-Chief also delivered a keynote speech at the 9th International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean on June 9.

The meetings were held separately and privately.

It must be noted Peru seeks to become a full member of the OECD, regarded as the club of developed countries.
