Stefan Lenz, former Federal Prosecutor at the Swiss Office of the Attorney General, expressed satisfaction with his role as external consultant to the special team investigating the massive Odebrecht graft scandal at Peru's Public Ministry.

"I am very happy that I can be part of the team that is investigating these really important cases in Peru. One of the goals —I've ever had— is to fight corruption all over the world […]," he stated.

The Swiss advisor also highlighted his meeting with Peruvian Attorney General Pablo Sanchez, held on Monday.

"I think that we made really good progress today. It was very important that we have met each other face-to-face and that we could discuss some problems, and I think that we are going to have a good solution," he added.

Stefan Lenz investigated —in 10 countries— bribes distributed by Brazilian construction firms through Swiss banks.

As Federal Prosecutor, he mainly focused on international corruption and money laundering crimes.

Attorney General Pablo Sanchez also welcomed Lenz's involvement in the Peruvian Public Ministry team, and hoped for further information on the Odebrecht case in the near future.

"This way, we continue to combat corruption and organized crime. Results are expected shortly," he concluded.

Odebrecht

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid bribes —worth millions of dollars— to government officials in Peru in order to secure public-works contracts.

The period in question spans over three previous presidencies: Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), Alan Garcia (2006-2011) and Ollanta Humala (2011-2016).
