Peru's Embassy will remain in Tel Aviv, in strict compliance with United Nations' General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, which established the special statute for Jerusalem, the Peruvian Government informed on Thursday.

The Andean country's Foreign Affairs Ministry released a communiqué addressing the recent events on Jerusalem.

According to the document, the final status of Jerusalem should be determined via direct negotiations between the parties with the support of the international community.

Likewise, the Peruvian Government reiterated its position in favor of a peaceful and negotiated solution that enables the establishment of two States —Israel and Palestine— with internationally-recognized and secured borders.

"During our participation in the [United Nations] Security Council, we will support all initiatives aimed at resuming peace negotiations," the statement reads.
