Peru: Araoz Cabinet gets Congress confidence vote

Peruvian Parliament gave a confidence vote to Kuczynski government's Ministerial Cabinet on Friday after several hours of debate.

The parliamentary session focused on the presentation of Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz over her administration's guidelines and general policy. 

The presentation started on Thursday morning and lasted nearly two hours. 

Afterwards, several lawmakers delivered their speeches resulting in a debate that stretched on for more than 15 hours.


As a result, the Executive's request for a confidence vote was approved at about 1 A.M.

Araoz team was supported by 83 votes in favor, 17 against and no abstentions. 


"We thank lawmakers for their confidence and for their joint work in support of Peru," the Cabinet chief said in remarks to the press joined by Cabinet members.
