Peruvian Ambassador Daul Matute Mejia presented his credential letters to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the Andean country's Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.

Such credentials recognize the appointment of Matute as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Asian country.

On the occasion, the Peruvian diplomat extended President Martin Vizcarra's greeting to the South Korean leader and highlighted the excellent bilateral ties uniting both nations, within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In addition, Matute noted some of the main pillars of said relation include South Korean investments in the Inca country and the important cooperation in terms of defense technology, as well as economic and social development.

In this sense, he also mentioned bilateral trade —which has been growing steadily since the Peru-South Korea FTA's entry into force in 2011— and the Andean nation's principled stance regarding the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Lastly, President Moon reaffirmed his administration's support for Peru's candidacy to become an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member.

The ceremony took place at Seoul-based Blue House on April 20. It saw the presence of South Korean Foreign Affairs Minister Kang Kyung-wha and other high-ranking officials from the hosting nation.
