Peru: 20,600 ha of coca eradicated so far in 2017

Peruvian Interior Ministry's Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) has eradicated 20,668 ha of coca crops so far this year, the institution informed Thursday.

Anti-drug operations were conducted in 27 localities strewn across rainforest eastern Ucayali and central Huanuco regions, such as Campo Verde, Neshuya, Padre Abad, Aucayacu, Cahicoto, Curimana, Irazola, Iparia, Bolson de San Martin, Puerto Inca and Calleria, among others towns.

Within this context, most coca fields eradicated were located in Tingo Maria, Aguaytia and Ucayali.

Likewise, CORAH's agents have destroyed 16,587 square meters of seedlings that were meant to be planted in order to expand coca crops.

As part of the eradication operations, the institution also reported the destruction of 17,398 plots of coca plantations and the intervention of 34 hidden labs.

For its part, the National Police Anti-Drug Unit razed other 21 major labs located in Irazola, Padre Abab, Aucayacu, Madre de Mia-La Morada, Monzon, Ciudad Constitucion and Tocache.
