Peru's First Vice-President and Ambassador to Canada Martin Vizcarra on Saturday said optimism and confidence in Peruvian mining is felt in the international arena, and that the stage is set for an excellent year, with more explorations and new projects to come.

"I've noticed increased attendance at the mining explorers' annual conference in Toronto, Canada (held between March 4 and 7), as well as greater optimism and confidence in the development of mining, in general, but particularly in our country," he said.

"I believe conditions are in place for 2018 to be an excellent year for mining, with more exploration and the entry of new projects," he told Rumbo Minero, program aired on local channel Canal N.

However, during the event, it became clear that said projects should foster greater economic growth in favor of Peru —with the State's role— to turn that expansion into progress and development for all Peruvians.

"That's the challenge: more mining, more growth, and more development for Peruvians," the high-ranking official stated.

It should be noted the Inca country introduced its new portfolio of mining projects at the March 4-7 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto.

Vast possibilities for Peru

According to Vizcarra, mining conflicts are not specific to Peru, since similar problems are found in other countries, and if we see that consensus is reached through dialogue —for the benefit of all— then this must be seen as an example.

"I'm sure there are enormous possibilities for Peru in this regard," he added.
