The Pacific Alliance (PA) will soon begin trade negotiations with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore, resulting in a number of opportunities for the major trading bloc, Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported.

Speaking during the 12th Pacific Alliance Presidential Summit in Cali (Colombia), Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros claimed this is a new but quite positive stage in the Pacific Alliance trade process.

"The associated state figure will allow the Pacific Alliance to negotiate with countries that show significant growth. This will provide Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru with a range of opportunities, thus consolidating the regional integration process underway," Mincetur head expressed.

In this sense, Ferreyros highlighted President Kuczynski's efforts to boost Peruvian exports. "This goes hand in hand with the Inca country's trade policy."

"Over the past years, Peru has advanced along the road towards trade liberalization, with important results for our exports, mainly the non-traditional ones," Ferreyros pointed out.

As is known, the 12th Pacific Alliance Presidential Summit was presided over by Presidents of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

The meeting assessed the bloc's progress made since July 2016 under the Pro Tempore Presidency of Chile, which handed over the post to Colombia.

Likewise, Mr. Kuczynski held a private meeting with fellow Pacific Alliance leaders to discuss accomplishments made in the past year, as well as coming challenges to carry on with the bloc's deep integration process.

The Summit also announced the beginning of negotiations to give Associate State status to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore.

Subsequently, Mr. Kuczynski and fellow PA leaders adopted the Declaration of Cali, reaffirming their commitment to the bloc's integration process and fostering free circulation of people, goods and services across their territories.
