A group of Peruvian artisans have been the ones in charge of this year's Nativity Scene, Christmas Tree and Advent Wreath decorations at Lima-based Government Palace.

Located at the main hall, the Nativity Scene features pieces restored by artists Hilario and Giorgina Mendivil.

Both were two of the most important sculptors of religious images in Peru back in the 20th century.

The persons depicted in their works are characterized by long necks and meticulous finish.

On the other hand, the Christmas Tree has been decorated with several ceramic pieces, toquilla straw products and textiles from Loreto, San Martin, Puno, Piura, Lima, Ayacucho, Ucayali, Cusco, Junin and Lambayeque regions.

The angels on the tree were made by female knitters from Catacaos district in Piura region.

They also made plant fiber flowers for the garlands strung on the lampposts along the courtyard.

The 5.5-meter diameter Advent Wreath placed in the courtyard was embellished with balls knitted and embroidered by Ayacucho region craftswomen.

Additionally, craftwork and tourism-related images will be screened on the presidential palace's facade thru December 27, as part of New Year celebrations.

Such projection will include Christmas greetings in different Peruvian native languages.

It must be noted President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski is slated to attend the traditional Christmas Eve Mass at Lima's Cathedral tonight.
