France defeats Peru at World Cup

11:56 | Ekaterinburg (Russia), Jun. 21.

Peru lost to France (0-1) in its second Group C match at 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

With this result, the French got their pass to the round of 16, whereas the Peruvians became the fourth team to be eliminated from soccer's mega event.

The goal that ended with Peru's options in this tournament was made by Kylian Mbappé, who scored in the 34th minute, following a shot by Olivier Giroud that had touched Inca defender Alberto Rodriguez.

Star-striker Paolo Guerrero was part of the starting lineup, whereas Jefferson Farfan entered the field in the second half.

Some Inca fans were in tears even before the kick-off, as they come from a generation of Peruvians who had never seen their country in such a tournament before.

The South Americans' last appearance was in 1982 and they made this like a home game, ensuring their red and white dominated the Ekaterinburg Arena, AFP stressed.

That included the two enormous temporary stands that stretch high above both ends, exposed to the elements, where Peruvian fans bobbed and bounced to keep warm, it added.
