Brazilian team Flamengo FC has decided to reactivate Peruvian top striker Paolo Guerrero's contract, which had been suspended since end-2017 —when the player was sanctioned by FIFA.

In this sense, the 34-year-old athlete will rejoin Mengao's training sessions on March 20.

Flamengo Soccer Vice-President Ricardo Lomba said there are expectations concerning the player's appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

"As we always have said, we count a lot on the player. People believe in his innocence and wait for his return starting on [March] 20," Lomba expressed.

"As for the trial, it will probably come to an end in the following days, but without a specific date," he added.

For his part, Guerrero keeps training with the help of a private coach at Buenos Aires Football —a high-performance center located in Argentina.

FIFA suspension

As is known, Guerrero was suspended by FIFA for one year after analyzing the adverse analytical result of the anti-doping test conducted on him following a Qualifiers match against Argentina in 2017.

Later, the governing body reduced such suspension to six months —a decision which might allow the athlete to play the 2018 World Cup.

According to Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF), the forward will be allowed to train with the national team on March 20, but he will not be authorized to play any official match thru May 4
