Singapore has got its first Peruvian restaurant, bringing the best of Peru's traditional cuisine to Southeast Asia.

The new eatery's name is Tono Cevicheria, whose opening ceremony took place on June 24.

According to a release by Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry, the event came as part of an initiative to promote Peruvian cuisine in that part of the world.

Said initiative was supported by Daniel Chavez, a Peruvian chef based in the city-state of Singapore.

Attendees sampled several versions of ceviche (raw fish marinated in citrus juice and spices), Pisco Sour (Peru's flagship cocktail), and other traditional dishes.

Peruvian food

Peru is widely known not only for its archaeological treasures and glorious Inca legacy, but for its unique cuisine enriched by the contribution of all groups that migrated to its territory.

Asian influence in Peruvian food is undeniable. As a result of Japanese and Chinese immigration, we can now enjoy the exquisite fusion of Peruvian and Asian flavors.

This combination gave rise to Nikkei cuisine (Japanese origin) and the popular "Chifa," which is a mixture of Chinese ingredients but with Peruvian touch, which makes it incomparable.

Its variety, the exquisite combination of native ingredients and the creativity of its chefs has allowed Peruvian cuisine to become one of the most well-known cuisines around the world.

The Peruvian cuisine is also influenced by ingredients and cooking techniques brought in with immigrants from Europe and Africa.
