EU expresses solidarity with Peru over deadly bus accident

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Peru Diego Mellado expressed his solidarity and deep condolences over the bus cliff fall occurred in Pasamayo last Tuesday, which killed at least 51 people.

"[...] I extend my deepest sympathy for the victims, as well as all my whole affection and support to their relatives," Mellado posted on Twitter.

The accident

According to local police, the accident killed at least 51 people and injured 6.

The event occurred after the bus was hit in the back by a truck, causing it to plunge down over a cliff.

The accident took place on a stretch of the road known as Curva del Diablo (Devil's Bend) located about 75 km north of the capital city, Lima.

For its part, the Public Ministry opened an investigation to determine the causes of the event.

Based on the first GPS reports of the vehicles involved, both the bus and the truck were traveling at high speed.
