The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) holds the First Intensive Workshop for the Accelerated Development of Patents in Lima with the purpose of positioning Peru as one of the ten patent developers in the region promoting economic growth and technological innovation.

According to CAF Chief Executive Luis Carranza, participants from public and private institutions, universities and research centers will be trained at this workshop.

They will be trained in generation and conceptualization of patentable and sustainable technologies. The activity will also promote the generation of highly innovative technological concepts.

“Industrialized countries see high growth rates and improvements in their citizens' quality of life, among other elements, due to their leadership in terms of technological innovation,” Carranza expressed.

Moreover, he emphasized the technological gap, a lack of long-term vision, and a shortage of innovation in most market sectors is what separates Latin America from Asia.

Hence the need to consider joint investments with foreign companies, foster patent development, and enter into a productivity pact, Carranza added.

Workshop

Supported by the Inca country's Production Ministry, the event kicked off on March 19 and will run thru March 23.

The workshop involves the participation of the National Science and Technology Council (Concytec) and the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi).
