At least 36 dead as bus falls off cliff in Peru

At least 36 people have been killed after a bus crash in a hard-to-reach area in Pasamayo, about 75 kilometers north of capital city, Lima.

A truck hit the back of the vehicle before landing on a beach below Panamericana Norte Highway.

The accident took place on a stretch of road known as Curva del Diablo (Devil's Bend).

In addition to those dead, the car accident has left 6 injured so far.

Three of the wounded were flown by helicopters to Carrion Hospital in Callao port city.

Others have been taken to nearby hospitals in Chancay and Ancon towns.

Operated by San Martin de Porres company, the bus was carrying 55 passengers.

Peru's Health Ministry said 5 ambulances were dispatched to the area to evacuate those injured. 

Plus, arrangements were made with firefighters to send 11 additional units.
