Oliver Sonne's chances of making the leap to the English league are growing after Silkeborg's sporting director, Jesper Stücker, stated that the transfer to Burnley will take place when the European transfer market reopens.
The possibility of having a Peruvian national team player in England's prestigious league is close to becoming a reality. Oliver Sonne is reportedly finalizing details for his move to Burnley, which will purchase his rights from Silkeborg, the Danish club that currently owns them.
This information was confirmed by Stücker, who emphasized that the Peruvian-Danish righ-back is ready to fulfill his dream of playing in English football.
"There’s a high chance the transfer will happen. Playing in England has been Oliver’s great desire for a long time. He had a strong fall season, so I believe that once the transfer window opens, he will achieve his goal," Stücker remarked.
Advanced negotiations are already underway between Silkeborg and Burnley regarding Sonne’s transfer. Reports suggest that Burnley, a Championship —second division— team in England, would pay £2.5 million —around €3 million or US$ 3.17 million— to secure the deal.
Silkeborg will remain inactive until February next year, and once the transfer market reopens on January 1, 2025, the move could get done.
A Peruvian Heart
Sonne, the Danish-Peruvian footballer, who can play as a left-back or right-back, currently represents Silkeborg IF in the Danish Super League. He debuted with the Peruvian national team on March 22, 2024.
Oliver Sonne is the son of Danish parents and was born on November 10, 2000, in Køge, located in the island region of Zealand in eastern Denmark.
He has Peruvian ancestry through his maternal grandmother, Elsa Schmidt-Muller Milosevich, who was born in Lima. Elsa’s father was a Danish merchant sailor, and her mother was Angélica Milosevich Flores, born in Cerro de Pasco, Peru.
