The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court of the Judiciary began on Tuesday the installation hearing of the oral trial against Susana Villaran De la Puente, former Mayor of Metropolitan Lima (2011–2014), over contributions to her electoral campaigns.

The hearing, attended by the former mayor, was held at the Judiciary's Carlos Zavala Building in Lima.

Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez, of the Lava Jato Case Special Group, participated as well.

The judicial proceedings also involve other 20 individuals and 9 legal entities, including former officials from her administration and representatives of the companies involved, such as the Brazilian firms Odebrecht and OAS.

The Prosecutor's Office is seeking 29 years of imprisonment for the former mayor, who is currently facing the proceedings under restricted release. In addition, a 36-month ban on leaving the country was imposed on her last July.

Villaran is accused of having led a criminal organization that benefited from contributions totaling US$11 million.

She is charged with the alleged crimes of illicit association, collusion, money laundering, generic falsehood, and false statement in administrative proceedings.
